review – doug benson/unbalanced load

I said I would eventually follow up on Doug Benson’s newest comedy album, Unbalanced Load, so here I goes.  It’s absolute hilarity.  Observational comedy is still his forte (less stoner jokes though) and his style has remained relatively the same.  He’s got a very casual, contagious demeanor and its obvious he enjoys his own jokes almost as much as you will.  The segue bit is so silly that you won’t realize it’s comical genius in reality…and that track’s relistenability is high, as is a lot of the album.  “Mystery” is also ROFL city, if you watch trashy VH1 reality shows.  Benson then ends with one of the darkest anecdotes I’ve heard in stand-up…and it works, bringing something unexpected to his act.  Here’s the amazon buy page again.

doug benson / aubrey plaza

Been meaning to post someting about Aubrey Plaza, but I kept forgetting.  She does sketch comedy for Upright Brigades and has since landed on the new NBC comedy, Parks and Recreation, as the intern, and Seth Rogen’s gf in Funny People. I’ve seen her in a few interviews and has great comedic style; she’s gonna be huge.  Also, Doug Benson has a new comedy album, Unbalanced Load.  I got the pleasure of seeing him perform stand up early this year and he dished out his usual weed jokes in his expected stoner manner.  Supposedly this album is darker, so when I get my hands on it, I’ll def write about it.
