hawty of teh week – lovely annie clark

Just as vocally gifted as she is visually (ou la la), Annie Clark (St. Vincent) just released her new music video for “Marrow” and is about to embark on a grand tour with Andrew Bird.  Here is the new MV and an in-house performance by the two tour mates, both of which I find absolutely fantastical.

Jump for the tour dates.

Thom Yorke – All For The Best

Black Moth Super Rainbow – Tooth Decay

Vivian Girls – When I’m Gone

mv updates quat twat

Grizzly Bear – While You Wait For The Others.  The song’s single release includes a Michael McDonald collab where he sings lead vocs.  Oh, this video is superb, too.

Fever Ray – Seven.  Typical Fever Ray…which means I enjoy the morbidness.

Sunset Rubdown – Black Swan.  Dark video with some fine, fine effects.

mv update #3 aka the one where we fuck but im still not a slutzkies.

Cass Mccombs – The Executioner’s Song.  Directed by Aaron Brown, it’s just as visually pleasing as the more DIY-style vid for “You Saved My Life” (which I adore) was.  Similarly, minimal and aesthetics that force the viewer to appreciate slow pacing are key again.  Understanding death is a result and life is the process.

Empire of the Sun – Without You.  Fourth single from ‘Walking On A Dream’, Luke Steele is hot off his heels with releasing this typical-for-him style video after collaborating with Hov.  As expected, he’s got his make-up and piercing video looks/poses.

Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy – How About Thank You. Directed by Mike Aho.  Split-screen, Mardi Gras beads & arcade game duel. Yup.

Chairlift – Ceiling Wax. Vocalist Caroline directed, and starring Aaron’s (synthesizer/guitar) sister stars as the interpretive dancer. Never cliche at least.

Antony and the Johnsons – Crazy in Love.  Enjoyed the overt tape tracking quality and the song is how a cover should be, beautifully rearranged to made to have its own identity. Tragic tonality.

YACHT – Psychic City.  What? Juxtaposing fictitious religions preaching nonsensical behavior satirically? Oh well, sounds like a summer jam. Whatever they’re preaching, you can’t beat them at their own game. Cinematic.

Weekly music video updates starting…now.

Fuck Buttons – Surf Solar.  That last ‘foreplay’ post about the next Fuck Buttons’ album, Tarot Sport, has edited its first single, Surf Solar, down to a radio edit and created this meshed video collage to match its sonic blast.

The Antlers – Two.  Nice animated selves of the band performing in a live background of a home space.  The video is very tone appropriate and the photography-animation hybrid makes for a high quality, grainy look that contrasts really well with the cartoon members.

High Places – Late Bloomer. Homemade & haunting…or outdoor made, uh whatever.
